What does a Kenya safari actually cost per person?
A budget camping safari runs roughly $150–$220 per person per day. Mid-range lodge safaris sit around $250–$400 per day, and luxury properties start near $600. Our 3 Days Masai Mara Safari is $360 per person in total, which includes park fees, full board accommodation, three game drives and transport from Nairobi. The figures that catch people out are park entry fees — currently around $200 per adult per day in the Masai Mara during peak season — and single-occupancy supplements. Park fees are included in our prices; any single supplement is shown on your quote.
Is 3 days long enough to see the migration?
Yes, if your dates fall between late July and October and you are willing to be flexible about which crossing point you drive to. Three days gives you two full mornings in the reserve. We would recommend four days if the river crossings are your main reason for coming, because the herds can sit on the bank for two days before they move.
Sirimon or Chogoria for a first Mount Kenya climb?
Sirimon has the gentler gradient and the better acclimatisation profile, which makes it the safer choice for a first ascent. Chogoria is the more beautiful route by a wide margin — Gorges Valley and Lake Michaelson — but it is steeper and wetter. The traverse that goes up Sirimon and down Chogoria gives you both, and it is the itinerary we recommend most often.
What is included in the price, and what is not?
Included: park and conservancy fees, accommodation on the stated board basis, a licensed driver-guide, the vehicle and fuel, game drives as listed, and drinking water in the vehicle. Not included: international flights, visas, travel insurance, tips, alcoholic drinks, and optional activities such as balloon safaris. Every quote lists both columns.
Can you combine Masai Mara and the Serengeti in one trip?
Yes — our 11 Days Kenya and Tanzania itinerary does exactly that, crossing at Isebania. You need to allow a full day for the border and transfer. It is worth it if you have the time, because you follow the same herds across both halves of the ecosystem.
How many people will be in my vehicle?
Six at most, and that is a hard cap. Our Land Cruisers seat seven, so there is always an empty seat and everyone has a window and unobstructed access to the roof hatch. Private vehicles are available on any itinerary for a supplement.
